FIDDLEFEST 2006

This March we gathered some of the finest fiddlers of this area. This is an annual show which has become very popular with our audiences. It is also lots of fun for us fiddlers.

The evening began with the Byron Berline Band and fiddlers Greg Burgess and I, followed by a couple of Greg's students: Jo Sands from Perry, Ok, and Miles Young of Guthrie. Both played very well and were very much appreciated by our audience. Jake Duncan of Tulsa, 12 years old, was the next young fiddler on the stage. He played some great old fiddle tunes and everyone loved his performance.

Buster Jenkins, my old friend from Ottawa, Ks. played his 5-string banjo and his pickin' buddy, Jack Theobald of Belle Plaine, Ks. backed him up on the guitar. Our crowds always enjoy Buster, and it was fun to see those guys get together again. Their collaboration goes way back.

Billy Joe Foster put on a great show, as usual, especially when he told his stories. Rick Morton of Tulsa has been playing a long time, but this was his first appearance on our stage. He teaches and plays around the state and we sure enjoyed having him entertain our crowd.

As a finale to the evening, we invited all the fiddlers on stage for a grand finish. What fun for everyone in attendance!
