Newsletter Dec 2017
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I always enjoy this time of year --- weather changing, leaves falling, the hustle and bustle of Christmas, friends and family --- and that's how we feel about all of you, our friends and family.

Coming right up are Guthrie's two Victorian Walk evenings, Dec. 9 and 16. Enjoy the many live Victorian window scenes around town, then join us for our stage concert featuring many of your favorite Christmas songs and a visit from the GHS Victorian Singers. These shows tend to fill up fast, so if you know you're coming, it would probably help to call for reservations.

I thought our Oklahoma International Bluegrass festival was a terrific success. The weather was almost perfect, the crowds were happy, the musicians were amazing --- I guess we'll plan another! Next year's dates are October 4 - 6, so mark them down in your 2018 calendar.

We are continuing the offer for bargain tickets, 8 shows for $68, which includes the February Fiddle Fest. That is $8.00 per show January through April, ($12 for FiddleFest) and the privilege of selecting your reserved seat location. The tickets will be ready to buy by the time you read this. Remember it is first-come, first-served for your seat selection, and we hold your seat for you only until show time. (2 = $136)

If you haven't been to a Music Hall show lately we're missing you, and you are missing all the amazing homemade pies Greg's wife, Lynn, is dishing up during intermission. We're having lots of fun, so we hope you will join us at the Music Hall when you can.
Now for what's coming up ----

Our annual FiddleFest is Saturday, February 3rd. This is a very popular show -- often selling out. It might be a good idea to call in for reservations. It's a wonderful opportunity to see and hear a stage full of fiddlers, young and old!

NO STAIRS On Saturday, February 24, we are again performing at Community Church, south of town, facing I-35 on the west side of the highway. Pastor Bill Williams and his church have once again graciously offered us the use of their Fellowship Hall --- same specifics, doors open at 7pm, show at 7:30, cost $10. The hall is on the ground floor --- there are NO STEPS to climb! Tell your friends.

Keep in mind the Western Swing music and dance evening is May 12th, NOT at the Logan County Fairgrounds this year. It is very likely we will move it to the Community Church. We're looking forward to hearing the amazing 90 year old Leon Rausch sing our favorite Bob Wills tunes.

Sirius' bluegrass station #62 continues to play tunes from my double cd, for which I am thankful. You may get your Christmas copy at the Fiddle Shop anytime and I'll be glad to autograph it for you!

GUITARS: we have many Martins, Gibsons, Collings and Blueridge guitars. A few of our recent additions: a 1972 D-35 Martin, four Ovations, all with pickups, a 1964 Silvertone with amp inside case, like new --- need to see; a 1950 J-45 Gibson, and a handmade O style from Steve Walden of New Orleans; in addition to lots of less expensive guitars; several electrics and a bass or two.a
MANDOLINS: my instrument of choice is a Collings new M5V, varnish finish. It has a great sound! We just acquired a Gibson Monroe Signature #156, with a great sound. We have a Kentucky KM5000; a Bill Monroe model signed by his son. Also a Kentucky KM1500 and two old Martins, The Loar and a Fender. We still have a Weber Yellowstone and that beautiful Black Ice Weber . You mando pickers must see it, and check out the 5 string mando too!
BANJOS: we have a good selection of new and used instruments from entry level to quality Gibsons, and we've just acquired two Imperials, built by Ty Piper. One is gold plated with top tension, the other is chrome plated.. In addition, we now have some open back banjos, and 4 or 6 string instruments
FIDDLES: we have the biggest and best selection of anyone around these parts. You need to come in and check out the fiddles I got from Tex Logan's collection. We have some wonderful 18th and 19th century violins from all over the world, as well as many entry-level violins starting at $165. We also have violas, cellos and a few bases --- bows, cases, and assorted accessories.
MISC: we now have a 1959 Fender six string double neck steel (no pedals)formerly belonged to a Turnpike Troubador. I just received the cadillac of steel guitars, a MSA Millenium, black graphite, double 10 string with all accessories, including a Peavey 112 amp. We also have tuners, straps, picks, strings, rosin, capos, pickups, chin rests, shoulder rests, pitch pipes, and books on how to play each instrument, in addition to DVDs and CDs of the band.
Our website includes videos of our instruments, so you can both see and hear them. I am always getting in new and vintage instruments that are not included on the website, so be sure and come in often to see what's new! Website (
