FIDDLEFEST 2005
On Saturday evening, February 19, the Music Hall and Byron
Berline's Band played host to another sold-out Fiddlefest show. The evening
began with a warm-up by Byron's band, then on came some of Jim Garling and Greg
Burgess' more advanced students. They were followed by octogenarian John Nickel
of Ark City, Kansas, Jack Theobald & Fred Morton from Kansas and Arkansas
respectively, then the set closed with Buster and Betty Jenkins from Ottawa,
Kansas. The Music Hall audiences always enjoy Buster's expert fiddling and
home-spun humor.
After an intermission of cookies and cakes, coffee and
sodas, and general mingling and good times, the second set began with the Hunt
family from Stillwater, Ok. Andrew, 13, and Jonathon10, are very talented
youngsters that have been gently supported and encouraged by their parents,
Terry & Leann. We enjoy having them perform on our stage often. They were
followed by Betty Babcock (21) from Lawton, Ok., Lauren Lee, 20, from
Holdenville, Ok., and a finale which featured all the fiddlers that we could
fit on the stage. Ragtime Annie and Faded Love were played by our large
contingent of fiddlers. As always, the crowd seemed thoroughly entertained, but
the most fun was enjoyed by the fiddlers, young and old.
